Council20Photo20-20Rikel20web20small35Councilmember Rikel has been a resident of Yorba Linda for 35 years and has been actively involved with city government for 20 years. She is a former Board Member of Yorba Linda Residents for Responsible Representation (YLRRR) and worked with many residents on the success of Measure BB, abolishing eminent domain for personal gain and was instrumental in the passage of Measure Y, the Ethics Ordinance. Councilmember Rikel was born in Little Rock, Arkansas.  She grew up on a Navajo Indian Reservation and graduated from Window Rock High School, Fort Defiance, Arizona. Ms. Rikel earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Arizona State University and was a member of the Sun Devil Marching and Symphonic Bands for four years.  

Ms. Rikel has one son, Christopher, and three grandchildren, Niccolette, Alex and Adam.  Her occupational history consists of being a Christian Volunteer in the Thailand-Presbyterian Church and an English Teacher for a year at Wattana Wittaya Academy and Jane Hayes Memorial School.  Upon her return to the States, Ms. Rikel taught three years at International Montessori and has spent the last 30 years as a Business Executive in the transportation industry.

Councilmember Rikel has been appointed to represent the City Council at the Orange County Fire Authority and the Yorba Linda Water District.  She also currently serves on OCFA's Business and Finance Committee and is on the Community Emerency Response Team (CERT).   In  2009, Ms. Rikel was on the committee to develop the Yorba Linda Public Library Strategic Plan.
