Mayor Pro Tem Rikel has been a resident of Yorba Linda for 34 years and has been actively involved with city government for 19 years. She is a former Board Member of Yorba Linda Residents for Responsible Representation (YLRRR) and worked with many residents on the success of Measure B (abolishing Eminent Domain) and the Town Center Zoning Referendum. Additionally, Ms. Rikel was a former Board Member of the Orginization of Unified Concerned Homeowners.
Mayor Pro Tem Rikel was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. She grew up on a Navajo Indian Reservation and graduated from Window Rock High School, Fort Defiance, Arizona. Ms. Rikel earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Arizona State University and was in the Devil Marching and Symphonic Bands for four years.
Ms. Rikel has one son, Christopher, and three grandchildren, Niccolette, Alex, and Adam. Her occupational history consists of being a Christian Volunteer in the Thailand-Presbyterian Church and an English Teacher for a year at Wattana Wittaya Academy and Jane Hayes Memorial School. She then was a Teacher's Assistant for three years at Montessori schools and has spent the last 30 years as a Business Executive in the transportation industry.
Mayor Pro Tem Rikel has been appointed to represent the City Council at the Orange County Fire Authority and the Yorba Linda Water District. She also currently serves on OCFA's Business and Finance Committee and is on the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). In 2009, Ms. Rikel was on the committee to develp the Yorba Linda Public Library Strategic Plan.
