Building Permits
Building permits are required to erect, add, modify, remove, or repair all commercial and residential structures regulated under the City Municipal Code. Once the Building Division, along with all other regulating departments, agencies and districts, approve plans for a project, a building permit can be issued.
Electrical permits are required for all new electrical wiring, electric service equipment installation, relocations and change outs, etc., but not for the replacement existing outlets or switches. Click here for info on electrical permit fees.
Mechanical permits are required for the addition, replacement, repair or alteration of mechanical systems. This includes such items as commercial hoods, evaporative coolers, furnaces and air conditioning equipment. Click here for info on mechanical permit fees.
Plumbing permits are required for all plumbing work including sewer connection, septic system work, gas lines, water and sewer lines and water heater replacement. Replacing a dishwasher or water softener does not require permit. Click here for info on plumbing permit fees.
Building Inspections
Periodic inspections by City Inspectors are required for all permitted work. Approved plans and inspection cards are required to be posted in a conspicuous place at the job site. The inspection area must be made readily accessible and safe for inspection.
Building Inspection Request Line
The public can now submit building inspection requests 24 hours a day, 7 days a week using the new Building Inspection Request Line. Click here for more information and detailed step-by-step instructions.
