Adults 55 years and older are invited to join in on a wide variety of activities, classes and trips offered at the Yorba Linda Community Center. The Center is a great place to meet new people and to expand your leisure activities. Some of the activities sponsored by the Yorba Linda Senior Citizens Club or the City of Yorba Linda are bingo, exercise classes, country line dancing, senior chorus, ping pong, and much more.

FREE AARP TAX-AIDE PROGRAM

The AARP Tax-Aide program will be assisting low-and middle-income taxpayers prepare and file their 2012 income tax returns with the IRS and California, free of charge.  Beginning Thursday,  February 5 through April 12, 2012, trained and certified volunteers will prepare your federal tax return, at the Yorba Linda Community Center.  Volunteers are equipped to file your return electronically, allowing you to receive your refund much faster.  AARP Tax-Aide Volunteers will be preparing taxes every Thursday morning from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm.  Please visit or call the Yorba Linda Community Center at 714-961-7181 to reserve an appointment.  You should be prepared to spend 1 to 2 hours having your tax return completed.  Please note that AARP does not prepare tax forms that include business, rental or partnership income.  Please bring all required paperwork including your 2011 tax returns.

Senior Services Volunteer Program

The Senior Services Volunteer Program is now accepting applications for individuals 16 years of age and older.  Help is needed at the Yorba Linda Community Center with serving lunch during the Senior Lunch Program, and various senior special activities.  Senior Services Volunteer Packets are available at the Yorba Linda Community Center or you can click HERE.  For more information, please call the Senior Services Volunteer Coordinator at (714) 961-7185.

Mature Driving Class (FREE)

The North Orange County School of Continuing Education Older Adults Program provides this course for licensed drivers age 55 and older who wish to brush up on traffic laws and safety techniques and to qualify for a reduced insurance premium, which is recognized by most insurance companies. Upcoming dates and times are 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Jan. 25-26, Feb. 15-16, Mar. 28-29, Apr. 25-26, May 30-31 and June 27-28.  Please call the Community Center at (714)961-7181 for a list of upcoming classes.

Movie Matinees

Enjoy watching recent blockbusters hits as well as eclectic favorites. Movies are shown on the second and fourth Mondays of the month.  Movies start promptly at 12:30 p.m.  Refreshments are provided.

SUPER SENIORS Nutrition LUNCH Program

Enjoy a nutritious lunch served Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 11:30 a.m. and Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. by Community SeniorServ. Meals are provided for a suggested donation of $2.50 for 60 years and older & $3.50 for 59 years and younger. Government Surplus Food Distribution

For Yorba Linda residents meeting the economic guidelines as established by the USDA, surplus foods are distributed on the third Thursday of the month from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Food distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.  Please bring a sturdy bag to carry items home. 

Senior Citizen Dances

Senior Dances are scheduled for Sunday, January 15, April 15, July 15 and October 21, 2012.

Senior Transportation (T.R.A.I.L.S.)

Happy TRAILS to you! The bus is now here and ready to transport you to and from the Yorba Linda Community Center/Senior Center, your local doctor's office, grocery store, hair appointments and visits.

T.R.A.I.L.S. (Transporting Retired Adults Into Local Services) is available on Tuesday and Wednesday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is a $1 fee per trip. A round trip is $2. The vehicle may travel within a one-mile radius outside the City limits to local services, such as Placentia-Linda Hospital and Anaheim Hills Festival Shopping Center. T.R.A.I.L.S. is designed for Yorba Linda residents 55 years and older. All potential users must complete a small application to receive their rider identification card. Applications are available at the Yorba Linda Community Center. HICAP (Health Insurance Counselling Advocacy Program)

HICAP can interpret Medicare and health insurance jargon, assist with appeals for denials of service form Medicare or your HMO, and help you evaluate Medicare Supplemental Insurance policies, HMOs, Medicare Rx Drug Plans and long-term care insurance policies. They can give you facts and information about different types of coverage and refer you to legal representative if necessary. Appointments are held on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Appointment is required. Call (714)961-7181 to make an appointment.

Adult Public Health Nursing Services Nurse

Adult Public Health Nursing Services (formerly PHCA) is a community health assessment program for adults.  Those over the age of 50 can receive basic health screenings, health maintenance counselling and follow-up for clients with special needs and health problems.  Appointments are available two Mondays per month from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Appointment is required.  Please visit or call the Community Center at (714) 961-7181 to reserve an appointment.

Yorba Linda Senior Citizens Club Sponsored Activities

2012 SENIOR CLUB MEMBERSHIPS
Yorba Linda Senior Citizen Club annual memberships are $7.00 per member. Members receive priority registration on all senior travel trips, discounts on Senior Club Monthly Luncheons. Bridge and Bingo games, Special drawings at Senior Club Events, and not to mention the companionship, fun and sense of belonging you will experience. BINGO

Bingo is played every Wednesday. Doors open at 10:00 a.m. and games start at 12:00 p.m. The cost is $1.00 a card and door prizes are awarded to Yorba Linda Senior Club Members.  There is an additional fee for Non-Senior Club members.

BRIDGE

Bridge is played at varying days and times; please check the calendar for details.  The cost to play bridge is $1.00.  There is an additional fee for Non-Senior Club members to cover the cost of general supplies.

Monthly General Meeting & Luncheon

Each month the Senior Club holds a General Meeting & Luncheon.  The event opens with general Senior Club announcements and is followed by a delicious lunch catered by such establishments as Kenos, Wings or Stefano's.  During lunch the participants are diverted by a variety of entertainers such as singers, magicians, comics, danceers, and a variety of other talented professionsls.  The cost of the Senior Club Monthly Lunch is $8.00 for non-members and $7.00 for members.  Members are also entered into a member's only drawing.

TRAVEL

Join our older adults as they travel both near and far to fun and exciting places. This is a great way to meet new friends and visit some interesting places. Open Monday through Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Senior Club Members receive priority registration the first day trips go on sale. Call (714)961-7187 for more information and prices.
